Overview
The Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist is an advanced practice registered nurse with expertise in caring for obstetrical and perinatal populations. This role supports highquality patient outcomes by translating evidencebased practice into clinical care, providing direct patient support, and influencing nursing practice across the organization. The CNS fosters a culture of clinical inquiry and leads improvements across three spheres of influence: the patient and family, nursing practice, and the organization.
Responsibilities
Core CNS Functions
- Provide direct patient and family support to promote health, wellbeing, and quality of life
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate plans of care
- Serve as a consultant for patients, staff, and systemlevel initiatives
- Lead change efforts that improve nursing practice and patient outcomes
- Build strong collaborative relationships to support clinical excellence
- Coach and mentor nurses in evidencebased practice, research translation, and professional development
- Participate in nursing research, quality improvement, and evaluation of patient outcomes
- Identify and address ethical concerns at the patient, provider, and system level
- Engage in selfevaluation, seek feedback, and support team accountability
- Participate in policy development at organizational and professional levels

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- Master’s degree (MSN or MS in Nursing)
- Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Minimum of two years of recent obstetrical nursing experience
- Minimum of two years of labor and delivery experience
- Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan
- Basic Life Support within orientation period
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support within orientation period if covering critically ill populations

- Previous teaching experience

- Regular lifting of moderately heavy items up to 50 pounds
- Occasional assistance with heavier tasks or equipment
